Peer Review Program

In Louisiana, firms offering attest services must enroll in the LCPA or AICPA Peer Review Program, which ensures that accounting and auditing practices meet professional standards. This process involves an independent evaluation of a firm’s practices, including compliance with standards set by AICPA, GAO, IRS, SEC, and other relevant entities. The State Board of CPAs of LA Enforcement Division has established peer review requirements for CPA firms providing attest services in the state. These include:
1. Frequency: Firms must undergo peer review at least once every three years, with the initial review meeting AICPA standards.

2. Administration: Peer reviews may be administered by the LCPA or an approved entity.

3. Approval & Oversight: Peer review programs must comply with Board-approved standards and may be subject to Board evaluation and oversight.

4. Report Submission: Peer review reports must be submitted to the Board within 45 days of acceptance by the administering entity.

5. Document Retention: Firms must retain peer review documents as per AICPA standards and submit them to the Board if requested.

6. Objective: The goal is to ensure only qualified CPA firms provide attest services.

7. Flexibility: The Board may grant or renew permits for firms awaiting peer review completion for a reasonable period, upon showing good cause, and may grant extensions if needed.

CPA Firm Permits expire at the end of the calendar year and must be renewed annually. Renewals are available through the Online Portal beginning on November 1, with a due date of December 31. A delinquent fee will be applied to any firms renewing after January 31.
